This is a 2023 red/orange coloured double vinyl LP pressing of Hard Drive by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messenger. The American jazz composer and drummer originally released his album in December 1957, via Bethlehem Records. Produced by Lee Kraft, the seven-track collection was recorded in New York City in October of 1957. The album features drummer/leader Blakey flanked by the likes of Bill Hardman (trumpet), Johnny Griffin (tenor saxophone), Junior Mance/Sam Dockery (piano) and Spanky DeBrest (bass).
Blakey made a name for himself in the 1940s in the big bands of Fletcher Henderson and Billy Eckstine. In the mid-1950s, Horace Silver and Blakey formed the Jazz Messengers. Blakey was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame (in 1981). Posthumously, he was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Grammy Hall of Fame (in 1998 and 2001). He was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
